Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. If there's anything to learn from the Michael Oher case is that white saviourism in transracial adoption is very real. Both stories together highlight the marginalisation and exploitation of mothers and children within an obviously corrupt and biased system. We need to be more vigilant that these children do not end up in needless adoptions. The adoption system rigged to pounce on the unsupported.
Until society can acknowledge it and unlearn and deconstruct then they will continue to harm adopted and displaced people.
People not wanting to acknowledge this doesn’t change the reality of adoption being trauma.
Society is indoctrinated into the propaganda around adoption much like racism & capitalism.
Adopted and displaced people deserve to be seen, heard and validated and live in a safe, inclusive and affirming world just like all other oppressed and marginalized groups/populations.
