Research Proposal: Addressing the Needs of Adoptees in Vocational Education

Introduction:

Adoptees often face unique challenges related to their identity, culture, and heritage that may not be adequately addressed in vocational education courses. This lack of inclusion can perpetuate feelings of disenfranchisement and isolation, which can have lasting impacts on adoptees' mental health and well-being. The purpose of this research is to explore the experiences of adoptees in vocational education and identify ways to improve inclusivity and support for this population.

Research Questions:

What are the experiences of adoptees in vocational education courses related to their identity, culture, and heritage?

How does the lack of inclusion of adoption-related topics impact adoptees' mental health and well-being?

What strategies can be implemented to improve inclusivity and support for adoptees in vocational education courses?

Methodology:

A qualitative approach will be used to gather data through semi-structured interviews with adoptees who have completed or are currently enrolled in vocational education courses in early childhood, individual support, and aged care sectors. Participants will be recruited through adoption support groups, social media, and online forums. Data will be analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns in participants' experiences and perspectives.

Literature Review:

The literature review will examine existing research on adoption, identity, culture, and vocational education. It will explore the impact of neglect and exclusion of adoption-related topics in educational settings and the potential consequences for adoptees' mental health and well-being. The review will also examine current strategies for promoting inclusivity and support for adoptees in vocational education and identify gaps in the literature.

Potential Contributions:

This study has the potential to contribute to a greater understanding of the experiences and needs of adoptees in vocational education and inform the development of strategies to promote inclusivity and support for this population. By identifying the unique challenges faced by adoptees and the impact of neglect and exclusion of adoption-related topics, this research can inform policy and practice in the vocational education sector. Ultimately, this study has the potential to contribute to a more inclusive and supportive educational environment for adoptees and promote their mental health and well-being.
